All newly manufactured fully automatic firearms are for LE/Military use only due to that shitty law, which was voted down and passed illegally, bundled into another vote, and is currently under an attempt to be overturned.
Since new manufacture for civilian ownership is prohibited, the cost of existing transferrable (open for civilian ownership) fully automatic firearms is outlandish. They start in the ~$10,000 range, and only go (way) up from there. They are prohibitively expensive. This is the reason the Average Joe doesn't have one.
All you need to do to own one is pay a $200 tax, and be able to drop 20 grand, and you've got yourself a machine gun.
