I suggest getting a 125cc motorcycle, as my 700cc is hard to park in urban areas due to certain laws. A 50cc 2 stroke would be better but many people still park giant 400cc scooters in the 125 max parking. You can get ANYWHERE on a scooter or motorcycle, it just takes time. I avoid the toll roads as they are CRAZY expensive for long distance trips but can halve your trip time if you need.
I camp with a 2 person tent but have a Hennessy Hammock for places I know have trees to hang on since most places are very limited for tree access. I honestly suggest getting a dark green (dutch) camo goretex bivy, sleeping pad, solo bug net, small camo tarp for emergencies. Having a small scooter or small motorcycle you can park close to towns, hike to a park, scope out a place and camp for free. No fucking about on a phone with a japanese speaker for a booking, just GO. Take a shit in the combi, go to an internet cafe or someshit for a shower, it costs nothing.
