>>217310I think it is just that they make good packs that fit a lot of different build people. Not too expensive either. The quality has gone down in recent years imo for their larger backpacks. They have become too light and gimicky.
I own a 25 L Osprey (quantum??) I use for day tours and in university. It has a laptop compartement and is a very good backpack. I also own a 85 L Osprey (crescent). The latter I use for trips from one to three weeks. It will just about fit gear and food for 18 days, but really isnt build for more than 25-30 kg and that is not enough if you need food for 15-20 days.
That is the main problem with the newer Osprey. The hip belt, lumbar pad and straps are to flimsy if you log more than 25 kg around. The Aether series for instance. Why would you need a 85L Aether. It is a very large backpack, but it isn't really made for heavy loads.
Pic related is 3 Ospreys and 1 Macpac all weighing in at around 30-35 kg for a 17 day unassisted trip in Lappland, Sweden. The Ospreys are 9 year old crescents and were way better than the Macpac. The blue one is mine. I loved that pack, but some airline company decided to drop it in the Atlantic or whereever it went. I didn't get. That is all I know. I bought a newer crescent after that. Not nearly as good imo, but 0,5 kg lighter and with more pockets etc.
