I need advice on reading a river and hooking fish. I have caught catfish before on worms and bobber, but now it's feeling more like it was luck. The outside of the river should be the deepest part where the bottom dwellers are right? The red line I marked is how the water current flows around in this spot. So this slow moving loop should be a prime feeding spot right?
I get the most bites on shelled shrimp marinated in garlic powder and chili oil, and I bottom fish with a Carolina rig and the rod on a holder. When I do get a bite, the top of the rod bends heavy for a brief moment and then poof, half my shrimp is bitten off. I can't seem to hook anything. I'm using mix sized catfish circle hooks.
