But then again this anime was adapted from a manga and it appealed to a more niche audience to begin with and never had mainstream appeal.
And perhaps Shimano/Daiwa were a little hesitant at first because outdoor activities and weebs don't really mix. They also risk tarnishing their image as anime otaku aren't viewed as a positive thing in Japan. And I'm sure the last thing fishermen there want is a bunch of degenerates stinking up their scene as well.
I'm still holding out for the possibility of collaboration goods or product placement in the future, if this anime gains traction. Yuru Camp is a prime example of that but the barrier to entry for camping is significantly lower than fishing.
