Humans didn't create the land and they don't have any intrinsic right to it. When you buy it, you're buying into a chain that started with some human that completely arbitrarily decided it belonged to them. Property "rights" are absurd because there is no individual who is owed a special right to any particular area of land.
"Improvements" like a dwelling are a different story, because that involves things that individual humans created through their personal effort. It makes sense to assign rights to a human based on things that they're responsible for the creation of.
