It's pretty sheltered from the wind if you pitch your tent in the right place, as for trees, I honestly can't remember, it was pretty dark when I got there and dark when I left so. The coldest it got to when I was there was probably around single digits and it wasn't too bad. I don't think I'd hammock up though, would have to be a tent or bivvy!
>>429044Basically winter camping just means more layers, more care in terms of not leaving shit out or getting wet, and eating/drinking more. Unless you're going technical (i.e. crampons, ice axes, ropes), it's really not too bad.
