>>1580801FYI, that opossum was covered head to toe with ticks. There were deer ticks and regular-sized ticks. Even the inside of her pouch had deer ticks. It was a bit horrible. You can even see a tick on the pinkish section of belly in the lower left of that image (and in this blow up of the original image). That been the same with all opossums I've killed in the past, though this one has the most I've ever seen. The myth about opossums eating ticks, and controlling tick population, is no more true than other animals eating ticks. If you need tick removal on your property use chickens, quail, and guinea fowl. Keep in mind that deer ticks can still be a problem for those fowl as well, if there are high numbers of ticks everywhere.
