In any case, headcount is as such - I have 8 fully ripened pumpkins now, almost 9. In addition to those, there is a second "generation" of about 7 (possibly 8) pumpkins who are anywhere between still-growing and almost-there. Initially I had wanted to harvest the first batch either yesterday or today, but as I understand from a bit of research, you should always opt to keep them on the vine as long as possible, even when ripe. As long as the plant is still alive and rot doesn't get to it, it should preserve just fine, so I'm likely going to keep the first 8 on there until September, the mark of calendar Fall to mark the occasion, and the second 7/8 until about mid-september, give or take. Possibly on the Equinox. So my job is to keep these plants alive until then. I just hope I can. Just another 30-40 days, that's all I need.
