Toothache plant is really awesome and I love growing it. The flowers are maybe lightly sour and peppery, but the major effect is that it makes your whole mouth tingle or "buzz" and increases salivation. The effect is very strong too. It lasts around a minute or two.
>"The active chemical is spilanthol. That used to numb gums for toothaches. It causes a reaction with the trigeminal nerve pathway controling the control motor and sensory functions of your mouth. The result is a tingling, popping sensation in the mouth. Kind of a cross between Pop Rocks and a 9-volt battery. "They germinate very well. I have more success direct seeding in pots outdoors. The seedlings start off very tiny with very short roots, so I protect the pots from critters. Once the first or second set of leaves come in they're very robust.
