I have a centennial mandarin Orange tree that has been badly mismanaged for many years: bad pruning with level cuts that allowed water to stagnate on the open cut, bark that cracked and fell, etc... A few years ago I inherited the orchard and salvaged it by pruning correctly, removing the diseased bark as much as possibile and applying Bordeaux mixture on the mostly sane bark.
I managed to stop the plant decay on most of the plant except an area (see Pic) where the bark slowly (over 3 months) keeps fissuring. I tried several time to remove these pieces of bark and applying Bordeaux mixture on and near the cut but it doesn't stop the disease, after a few months the bark above the cleaned area fissures again.
Anyone knows what kind of disease it is and how to treat it?
