The sunset was otherworldly. Going to bed so early, and this being my first night out this season, sleep didn't come easily. I kept thinking about those creepasta stories from /k/ and /out/, some of which I had contributed to and knew were fiction, but couldn't help getting hung up on the radio show I'd heard linked about disappearances in national parks, about how people whould be out in a group, turn around, and all of a sudden one of the people is missing. How they'd later be found half-decomposed, with no shoes, many miles from where they disappeared. Apparently, there was some bear-like, man-like creature that spirited away these people, and children who were recovered later on would tell of how "the bear" (or sometimes they'd call it a wolf) "gave them food," or "promised them safety." I kept thinking of some bear-person unzipping my tent, crouching over me, watching me pretend to sleep, and whispering in my ear "I know you're awake."
