Where do I start when it comes to self sufficiency?
I have a place, or my family does. It's big area which used to be a farm before it was converted into a workshop/storage before it was forgotten. It's overall a very huge area, there is a small path of forest, a small field, 2 houses, a garage one large warehouse and one large workshop. Sound like a dream place for something like this but these building are old and haven't been maintained at all and even though they are useable they do require a lot of fixing or I don't see them still standing in 10-20 years. We do try to fix them up here and there but our knowledge and time is limited.
I don't think this place is the best for growing crops either. The weather here is rarely "good", we only get warmth and sun frommid spring to summer, otherwise it's cold, wet and windy, It's windy almost all the time. It's a mere 50 meters away from the coast to everything is covered in salt and the air is very dry. Overall there is very little forest and wildlife.
If I want to start I imagine I will need a lot of money, like a lot of money. I just spent about $3,000 getting an old pick up truck for work, this is not including maintenance, insurance etc.
If I'm going to farm my own crops and such I will need lots of equipment and building material. I can't even begin to imagine how much money it would cost me to get a tractor, a ploug, a cultivator etc. And I would need a boat aswell for fishing
There is just so many things I need to consider. But for now I'm mostly curious if I should I find another place to move to and start there, a smaller place just for myself. This place or try it just seems like so much to handle at the moment
