>>2325481 Fossil hunting is usually a secondary concern for me or I'd have found much more. Usually I'm just talking a nature walk on the beach with the dogs and a beer or two and keeping my eyes peeled for megs. There a people ( retired boomers ) dedicated to going down at the first low tide of the day , like every day, and they snag bigger teeth like almost every time. I kinda sorta know one of them and I've seen him haul 5-6" meg teeth. They tend to be kinda stand off-ish about it, competitive over the teeth. But whatever, like I said I just do it to chill.
So here in this pic you can see what the fossil layer looks like. In spots it's MUCH thicker than this like a couple feet of fossil layer. 99.9% mostly just shells that feel like they are made of clay and disintegrate if you look at them wrong. But sometimes you'll see a big tooth sticking out. A couple of years ago a super rare, almost entirely intact whale skeleton fossil was found in the side of the cliff on my neighbors portion of the cliffs. The local museum wanted permission to excavate it, but in doing so would have taken a shit ton of the cliff out, leading to the cliff collapsing in and my neighbor losing 5- 20 feet of their land up on top of the cliff into the Chesapeake bay. So sadly they said no.
