Let your lure settle to the bottom. Keep your rod tip high, and no slack in your line. If you have the right weight on for the depth you are fishing, you should be able to feel the bottom. Keeping a high rod tip and tight line will help you detect bites better and help you pull your lure through snaggy areas. If you get near a big rock or limb you can even yo-yo your jig in place over the structure. I usually use these lures when fishing new water since they can find hidden laydowns, timber or rock. When you get really good with a jig you will even be able to tell yhe difference between structure types.
