You will get a education on gear and even diet in the first week. The fun part for me was the GPS mapping and locating and identifying of preexisting structures in "hostile" areas. The only issues I ran across were heat, humidity, snakes, animals, bugs, squatters, unlicensed pharmaceutical manufacturers, pot farmers, and co-workers. The pay is not great and dealing with the engineers and clients is less than pleasant but with the right firm if you keep track of your hours and expenses you get to be your own boss while on site/location.
