>conform to LARPTo be clear; I call it a LARP, but it is technically neither a LARP nor reenactment, but rather a way to stay connected to my forefathers. My vaguely conceptualized "rules" are something like:
>Avoid synthetic materials like the plague; prioritize materials like steel, linen and wool>Prioritize stuff made in Europe; avoid globohomo and international capitalism>Prioritize second hand and surplus; avoid consumerism and brandfaggingThere's no fixed "time period" or anything, and not everything conforms to the rules. My pepper spray is plastic, my flashlight is very modern and Chinese, and my hat is brand new. I don't think those three items will be replaced with more rule-conforming items for example.
What I am interested in is seeing how those who came before me went /out/. I come from a long line of /out/ists. My hat being polycotton doesn't affect the experience much; but if I brought my JetBoil or Optimus stove, my high-tech Carinthia sleeping gear, my hydration bladders, then that suddenly changes things. I have also already spent many years going /out/ with all the most cutting edge high-tech stuff I could afford, so that has become rather uninteresting to me. And of course, I simply have an aesthetic preference for the turn of the last century as well.
