Here is a new bin I set up about a year ago. I start with shredded paper and cardboard, powderized egg shells, some spent coffee grounds, and about 500 worms. I use these cheap 13 liter bus bins, they do the job. I use a pocket feeding method where I bury a fistful of food scrap and fresh bedding in a corner every 2 or 3 weeks. Pretty much every feeding I do includes coffee grounds because I have so much. I use these Coco coir sheets to cover the top for kind of a natural look.
I estimate that within the last 8 months to 1 year the worm populations have doubled or tripled in each bin. My first two years vermicomposting had some challenges like heat waves and soldier fly infestation but I've made a lot of steady progress this year. One of my goals was to produce enough castings to support 4 garden beds and I feel like I'm finally there.
