>>302272Yeah I love the birds (for now) and also unless it was something else that ate and left a huge bite mark a lone tomato (I sadly forgot to pick) that pollinated and reddened in December. I know once my berry patch is ready, I'll have to make the birds my enemies but now they are my friends. Take good care of em. Thinking of possibly making or buying a birdhouse/seed box for them. Theres those tiny brown birds (common to yours and my areas) do you know what they are? I 'think' they are finches but I don't know. One laid eggs and is taking care of its babies on a section of my house. I love those little guys. I also know the birds have been helping out back with the problem with grubs (my idiot dad overwaters the ground and the weeds and theres Jappo beetles/grubs in the soil in one part so I'll be fighting them soon.
Watch out with newspaper. I heard some of that ink 'can' be toxic to the soil so just be careful. I'm low on cash too, I have to get a job ASAP and find an advisor for graduate school so I've really been using my 'food money' on gardening supplies and food because its so exciting for me. It seriously feels like being 7 years old and going fucking crazy over buying a Lego set again. I spend HOURS at hardware and gardening stores now looking at the supplies and plants. I forewent eating the last couple of days to buy gardening supplies and seeds. I bought 10 bags of 1cFt MG Garden Soil, 1 2cFt Kellogg Amend, $25 worth of half-price seeds, 4 bags of Red Mulch (it was $2.50 earlier today), and one Bee Balm plant for $2 (since the seed I sowed 2 weeks ago and the 2nd one I re-sowed 3 days ago hasn't sprouted yet so I figured by buying a plant, it will mature in a month or so and the bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds will 'know' to visit my veggie/herb/flower box regularly). This is in the updated box as well as the 2 carrots I said I would put in the top part:
