>>1293163I did a geoscience degree and ended up working as a field geophysicist for a few years. I worked for a 'cowboy' data acquisition company where there was intense pressure to get data and safety was somewhat of an inconvenience.
Was all fun and games though. Got to zip around Australian outback (all states and territories) in v8 landcruisers, 4x4 trucks, buggies, quad bikes and helicopters. The outback is where the real Australia is IMO. Pic related is from the backseat of a robinson R44 chopper where the pilot wanted to razz up some wild horses by coming at them at 180km/h about 10m off the ground. Shit was cash.
I also did a bit of overseas work in eastern europe. Mostly just flew into the place with my gear and hired a local guy to help me out from the project area. On one gold exploration job in particular, after a 10 week non-stop stint, myself and a couple of local lads got into the nose beers in celebration. The only flat surface we had on hand was the screen on a $150K instrument. We then proceeded to hit up the local provincial capital nightlife, such as it was. Learned the language very quickly.
Currently smashing out another degree but hope to be back into it in a year or so. Aiming to get some work in Africa next - should be dope!
