My girlfriend was cleaning out an old family home (roof is falling in/water damage etc) and brought back my first gun. It's a '54 16 ga ithica model 37 featherlight. She brought back a shoe box of shells as well but, this being my first gun, I don't really know what the different shells are appropriate for (hunting wise).
all 16 ga 2 3/4" shells
>Relatively new plastic shells
Remington Express Magnum 2
Winchester Western Mark 5 Super X [1 1/4 oz] magnum 2
Winchester Western Super X [7/8 oz] slug
Winchester Western Mark 5 Super X [1 1/8 oz] 7 1/2
Winchester Super X 1Buck
>old cardboard shells (faded markings hard to discern)
Remington Express 3-[1 1/8] #6
Remington Express 3-[1 1/8] 7 1/2
Winchester Western Xpert [1 1/8] #5
Revelation 1 1/4-[1 1/8] "maximum"
I've spent the last week on and off looking around for information but most references are for 12 gauge. I guess wonder what the practical difference is for 16 ga vs 12.
