Over anything short of dense forest or mountainous terrain where you're climbing over shit constantly, something like this is objectively a more efficient way to move things. There's a reason why bums use shopping carts, construction laborers use wheelbarrows, and warehouse workers use pallet jacks.
Native cultures were just technologically behind European. The plains indians that used travois didn't have the woodworking tools and techniques needed to make wheels out of the timber available to them. Native groups that did have access to timber suitable for making simple, solid wheels didn't have draft animals needed to pull that weight and consequently spur further development of that technology. Obviously horses were reintroduced by Europeans.
