Is measuring the height of shoes in inches an American thing or have I totally missed something? I can understand wanting tall heavily insulated boots for work on high difficult peaks but it seems ott for a hike. Why do you all wear tall boots?
Also the term ‘hike’, just what does it encompass because it seems like it can include everything from a flattish 8km walk in the woods to multiple 20km days.
I wear Salomon approach shoes -pic related - for three seasons, they’re comfortable and good for quick ascent/descents and long days in the mountains. When I am in the alps I wear them until I need to put on my B2 Charmoz for when I reach trickier ground. Do Americans not like walking shoes because they look dorky? I know boots do look a bit cooler but they’ve aren’t as comfortable. They shoes are light and have forested lining,I wear them with gaitors if I know it will be very very wet and I have had no issues with them
