I don't really have a car but there's a chance our Platoon Sergeant might arrange transportation for a few motivators as long as we're on our best behavior. Rent a car, peterburg to waynesboro is only 2 hrs, that will take you to shenandoah (to the north) and gw forest (to the south) so you can choose whether to go normie dayhiking or backpacking.
Bonus points shenandoah np entrance fee is waived if you're active duty so you might as well take advantage of that
