Looking to cut down on the overall cost of a raised bed by filling most of it with cheap, compostable materials.
Already have two beds with leaf/grass litter bases but I'm wondering if woodchips would work as well.
Pic related is the local free compost site.
Can I fill large smart pots with about 70% woodchips with a top layer of quality compost/soil?
Obviously, mixing them will lock up my bacteria as it fixes the carbon, but as a water retentive core there shouldn't be any issue...right?
