>>682425I also forgot about nymph indicators, there are many methods for feeling strikes, but using a foam indicator seems to be the best way to learn. It's sensitive, light, and easy to cast.
some people also tie in colored leader, or tippet into their rigs to see strikes, or like humphry's you can simple feel your strikes through the fly line by keeping your line taught through the drift.
I personally started with an indicator, and gradually worked my way to using the feel of the fly line, which can be much harder as sometimes the strikes are completely unnoticeable, even with a foam indicator.
Dry flies also work as excellent indicators, as well as serve as great looking bait.
