I got memed into buying a becker bk-7 by alfieaethstetics years ago, but it'sbeen the best purchase of my life. it's heafty enough to be a solid hatchet and work as a small machete when needed, a solid hammer for pounding tentpegs, and sharp enough for fire making. stock sheath and scales suck dick, I replaced both along with the rust-prone bolts on it and put gun-grease under the scales to prevent rusting there. I also carry a plain jane swiss army knife for whittling and creature comforts like can/bottle opener, toothpick, tweezers, and all that. a solid hatchet is better than an old school kabar, and when I bring an axe along my giant larp-knife stays home. I also like to keep a finnish puukko in my pack for whittling and food prep/eating when I leave the bk-7 home.
