Single wall tents are light and easy to use, HOWEVER I just came back from a month on the AT and the weather got pretty shitty towards the tail end. Most notably one night where I was in the Smoky Mountains and it rained harder than I've ever experienced camping. Single wall tents love to have condensation come through which is a minor pain in the ass but sometimes is and sometimes isn't worth the weight reduction. It really sucks waking up in the morning and immediately getting a wet head and neck from touching the tent. This night in particular where it rained so hard the condensation was splattered onto me like I was getting rained on inside my own tent cause the rain drops hit so damn hard. By the end of the night I had a puddle in my tent and had to completely hide inside my sleeping bag to stay dry from this interior rain storm. When I next hike on the AT I am definitely going to get a double wall tent and just deal with the higher cost for similar weight.
