Folks, I'm doing some changes in my veg room, to be specific with the lights.
I'm going to install smaller fixtures that can hold 2 bulbs each, but now I am kind of wondering about the type of combo to use when it comes to the bulbs themselves.
With fixtures like that I have more possibilities than with just one big HPS, but I cannot figure out which combo is better and more desirable.
1. To go 2x cold (blue) spectrum veg/grow bulbs
or rather
2. Better option would be to go 1x cold (blue) spectrum veg/grow and 1x warm (red) spectrum flower bulb?
My confusion and indecision comes from the though that it would rather seem more logical that a plant that gets a wider spectrum would be better off then the one that gets only one, limited kind, because the sun light has all the colors of the rainbow, right?
Doing research, I also read that specific spectrums fulfill specific roles in the photosynthesis process (it's called photomorphogenesis), so for example apparently blue light regulates bunch of grow processes and can prevent stretch, but on it's own it can actually slow the growth or even halt it completely. On the other hand the red light can encourage bigger biomass and leaf growth but on it's own it can make the plant tall/stretchy. With that information it would seem that a mix would be better choice, because it creates a balance, but I'm just not sure if I get everything correctly on the subject and if the source of the claims can be trusted (I found it on the web...)
With solo HPS the case was non existent, because I would always just go with a mixed spectrum bulb (they were available, made sense to me to use them and the plants were growing happily. No problems = nothing to think about).
So I want to ask, do you know anything on the subject and what can you tell? Am I right with the logic and the mixed setup is the way to go or is there something I missed, the info was wrong etc. and a specific spectrum focus will be more beneficial to the vegetation?
