I planned a hike along the midstate trail with a friend of mine a couple years ago. I was so psyched about it, we were going to hike about a 20 mile section that has a couple shelters along the way that we were gonna spend the night. Brought some rum, some cigars. First day was going to be about 15 miles and then the second day was just gonna be fun, make our way through the state park to the shelter that's on the pond and just have a cozy time and drink the rum.
It was fucking great, really nice forest, swamps, a couple dams that we went over, it passes through lots of state and local parks so we had plenty of people to stop and chat with along the way, played with some doggos in the river, etc. I was just so glad to be out in the perfect weather and not have to think about anything else and we had two whole days to look forward to.
About 12 miles in on the first day, the trail crosses a rural highway. When we got there he called his wife and she came and picked us up and we went home.
Pic relates very much to this.
