>>1704427>Saving up money for land nowFor 2 dairy cows and their calves, you'll need at the very least 4 acres of good pasture. I recommend 10 acres of pure pasture. That way you can section it off and rotate the grazing through the year without creating bald spots or stressing the plants too much. You may even have enough land to harvest silage to put away for winter months.
If you drive around, to prospective properties you are looking to purchase in the spring time when buttercup is blooming, you will more easily find out which pastures you must not buy. Any pasture with tons of buttercup flowers will be off limits to you or you will need to spend heaps of money and time removing the toxic flower and reseeding the entire pasture land. If the property only has a small amount of buttercup then it may be easy enough to eradicate it every spring when you see it blooming until it is forever gone. You can also fence off small patches of it to prevent the cattle from grazing there until you take care of the problem. Just never let it go to seed. Also, rotation of the grazing helps prevent this sort of toxic flower disaster from happening.
