When you start catching them a lot, you understand why they’re so dangerous. They’re very protective of their fry, they can live in shitty little canals and get huge, they’re good at hiding from larger predators, and they’re very aggressive when hunting compared to other native fish. They’re also pretty smart/timid, if a snek goes for an artificial bait and I can’t set the hook, I don’t have a chance of hooking it again that day (unless it’s a dumb young fish or a reaction strike from a parent protecting fry), meanwhile LMB will hit metal and rubber spinner baits multiple times before getting hooked.
