Bears, /out/.
BEARS.
I'm going to be doing my first weekend campout solo next week, plan is to paddle down the Chetco river for awhile and then set up shop in a calmer area on the riverside and relax for awhile.
This will be both my first solo camping adventure and my first attempt with loading up my kayak (folboat) with equipment for an overnight stay. Lofty goals, I know.
My biggest concern is motherfucking bears. Evidently, Oregon is chalk-full of these hairy fuckers and online government guides are pretty ridiculous. I really don't fancy eating 100 yards away just to eat a damn can of beans and a clif bar, but is it a real concern? I never see animal safety mentioned in my many hours of lurking /out/. I'd be along a river but I'll check to see if there are fish that the bears hunt in said river.
So /out/. When you go camping, how do you deal with the danger of bears? I'm not sure of how big a threat they really are/aren't to little ol' me.
