climbing a tree is a decent idea, but sometimes you might be shit out of luck with no (climbable) trees around. i like foraging for mushrooms and i'm always hog paranoid when i'm looking through areas that got a lot of brush. i can't have guns and i feel like with maces is super sketchy against a charging hog (or anything else that's charging you). appearently referee whistles are really effective, idk how true that is.
considering a lot of hog attacks are probably due to hogs getting startled at a point where you're pretty close already, would it be a good idea to wear something that makes noise? like a bell bracelet or something?

https://www.sverigesradio.se/artikel/5330814 but they clearly had boars back then, and boars are notoriously hard to get rid of. i guess it could be a pig that broke out from a farm but it seems much more plausible to me that its just an actual boar
