hi y'all, i live in zone 7a for gardening. i'm going to receive my tax refund soon, getting a little over $1000. i'd like to start a vegetable/herb/fruit garden and try to get into composting with worms. i'm also thinking of having raised beds. i'm new to this but it's something i want to do. it would feel rewarding to provide for myself and gift other people i love/in need.
my backyard has blackberries that grow by the edge, and i also have a peach tree that i want to take care of more when i move in to possibly try canning/making jam/wine with later this year. i was told one time it had worms and i would like to avoid that. I want to grow tomatoes, cucumber, squash, spinach, all sorts of things!
how much do you think i would need to afford just getting the garden/compost started? i know it's a little late to start off with seeds for some crops, how much does that matter to you? do you guys recommend any ""natural/organic"" alternatives to sprays or whatever is needed to keep my soil/plants safe and healthy? anything else you've learned from experience?
