>>412552Also from the UK and did this myself a couple years ago with my dad, but didn't push hard enough for national parks to be a bigger part of our itinerary.
Did drive through some amazing landscapes though. Death Valley and Monument Valley. Zion and Bryce Canyon area (don't think we ever actually went in either technically), Utah is beautiful all over. Drove over Teton Pass in the dead of night (listening to crackjobs talking about UFOs on AM radio). Saw the geysers and bacteria mats in Yellowstone. The (slightly extremely boring) endless fields of potatoes in Utah. Visited the Grand Canyon and saw the Arizona Monument Valley (those huge rocks, it's in one of the Windows sample pictures) Drove through the Nevada Desert and on the Extra Terrestrial Highway. Also did plenty of non-nature focused things: Went on the Alcatraz Tour in SF. Visited Cannery Row in Monterey. Won about $30 in Reno (high roller, I know).
And we skipped over SO MUCH. I want to go back and do the entire West Coast but spend a couple of months there to really get a chance to see it all.
If I could make one recommendation: Don't try to go too far on the road trip. We did over 3000 miles and it was such a tiring whistle stop tour.
