What's left is silica, the volatiles which fueled the magma, and all of the metals which don't easily fit into the crystal structure of granite minerals. Basically quartz veins, besides gold, they have a bunch of other shit in them. Lots of stuff is found in veins stringing through host rock, a molten fluid that follows the path of least resistance i.e. faults.
