Tanto tips were invented to keep the tips of thin, long, and brittle Japanese swords from breaking off. It has no place on a pocket knife. On the other hand, the reverse tanto design, ironically, does everything that the tanto tip is supposed to do, while remaining viable as a blade you can use.
