If you are going out for survival, you are probably better off getting a hold of a gun and buying some land. Everyone else has the same idea you do and shit's going to get medieval in the woods anywhere inside a 50 km circle from a city. While you are sitting in your tent enjoying your canned beans, some nigger is going to put a couple of bullets through it and take your shit.
If you are just going to enjoy camping, any canvas tent will do, if you don't have a skillset. I usually build a little lean-to on site, to save on having to carry shit around, and just sleep in a bivy. For that, you need a small saw or axe and some cordage.
Look up 'Dave Canterbury's 10 C's of Survivability'. The dude can't write worth a shit, but his concept is pure gold.
