Nice pics OP! And I agree. I grew up in the USA (east coast) and have lived in Stralia for most of the last 17 years and my friends back home don't get it. They see my pics and think everyone's larping around in 4wds but actually you drive more than 30mins any direction outside Canberra and you're a wet fish without a proper vehicle

I love driving into Namadgi/Brindabella and passing all the campgrounds along the way, and then by the time you get to Picadilly Circus (the "choose your own adventure" spot I call it) there's literally nobody around anymore. Just make sure you make the effort to get /out/ on some weekends and holidays and things. I was living in a city the last couple years that had amazing /out/ all around the outskirts, and as long as I kept myself motivated to not be a piece of shit and stay home all weekend I got a ton of camping etc trips in. It heals you.

Well, in a sense you can, but also not so much. That national parks around me are massive (like having 4 Rhode Islands or bigger wrapped around your city) and they aren't open forests, they're thick horrible bush for hundreds of kms, alpine zone shit with steep mountains and ledges, and these national parks aren't tourist destinations, there are only fire roads through the mountains and no campgrounds or sights to see. The only parking areas/campgrounds are around the edges. There are almost no cleared hiking trails. Even driving on the fire roads you're going like 45m or an hour through the mountains to get to a clearing. It would take a hiker a couple days and they'd have to walk on the road where they aren't allowed. It's sort of hard to explain but if you want to camp you have to drive to the edge of the parks and find a plebby campground, or drive half a day through to find one on the other side. In the middle it's just rough bullshit. Pic related, idunno if it fully illustrates the type of terrain but you get the idea

I'm going out of my fucking mind. I'm not much of a beach person (I don't like sand. It's coarse, and rough, and irritating, and it gets everywhere), but love camping inland. My favourite spot is probably the Brindies (no normies there) but Wee Jasper is really nice too if you just want to relax for a weekend, as long as it's not too crowded. Camped here and there around Southern NSW, a lot of places are pretty bland but the mountains are really something, and fucking nobody goes there.

I'm losing my shit being stuck /in/ all autumn. Just bought a bunch of new camping gear earlier this year and after just a few trips they shut it all down. Now I sit home every weekend getting drunk and pushing chopsticks up my fuckin dickhole
