Any ramp growers on /out/?
Last year, I bought a bunch of ramps and planted them in my relatives forest plot. I am waiting to see if they survived into this year, but in the mean time I am buying a new batch to plant in some other prime locations (anywhere that Trilliums are growing - my family's plot has 1000s of them).
Last year, I tried to plant the ramps in the forest ASAP, but I am wondering if I can plant them in a planter with some rich soil and put them out in the sun, to let them grow and soak up as much energy as possible during their brief growth period. I know they grow best in shaded forest, but during their brief growth window early in the season the leaves on the trees are not developed yet, so I think they should be adapted to taking some direct sunlight. Can I plant them in a planter, leave them out in the sun (as long as it doesn't get too hot) until their growth period is over and then plant them in my relatives forest, or should I just put them right into the forest? I am trying to jumpstart a patch as quickly as possible, but I don't want to be too reckless and toast a season's worth of new plants in my haste.
Anyone have experience cultivating these things?
