But the well designed ones aren't that bad for carrying anyway. Too lazy to find any good examples, but a bunch of 14-15 year olds in decent shape can pretty easily haul something like this all day at a slow pace with frequent trade offs in easy terrain.
Remember, they generally aren't meant for hardcore wilderness exploring, they're for forcing kids to learn to work together and responsibility and all that shit. Hauling around a bunch of kitchen stuff might be less efficient than bringing a couple little gas stoves and everyone packs their own food, but it requires organization and lets you assign a "kitchen duty" and all that stuff that is the reason parents stick their kids in scouting in the first place.
