Most modern underquilts I've seen are rectangular shaped, like that one, (or a very similar shape, like the DD underquilt which is like a rectangle with rounded corners) however they come with a drawstring to bunch the ends together and keep things snug. I opted to make my new one fitted to me as I had that luxury; commercially available UQs must be a one-size-fits-all thing and different people are different shapes so my UQ, for example, might be worse for someone else than a rectangular UQ with bunched ends. However mine saves on weight and down.
