A forestry hatchet can't compete with it when it comes to carpentry and carving, but it also goes the other way.
It's amazing what you can do with a hatchet if you develop the hand for it.
A couple knives: I have a no.9 Opinel always on me, a 2 inch made from a broken opinel blade and a 4 inch Mora. A thin blade is better for carving but sometimes a stiffer blade comes in handy so I also have a thick 5 inch Lauri.
Also a Mora crooked knife and an italian Rinaldi bowl adze like in the pic. A tomahawk handle is good because you can detach it easily to carry the tool with you
