The other day a fellow /out/doorsman made a thread about survival/bushcraft books, specifically pic related. I mentioned I had it ordered and was asked to give my impressions. So here it goes.
Note: I haven't read the book, I skimmed each of the 16 chapters.
This book is not for an experienced bushcrafter or survivalist although it should not be disregarded as we can learn all the time. The book is split into two parts, Part One- Gearing Up. It covers the different types, use and care of packs, knives, saws/axes and ropes and knots, as well as shelter, fire starting. Part Two- In the Bush covers the choosing and setting up of camp, land navigation, trees and their uses, and trapping and processing game.
The book also has three useful appendices which include A. Conserving resources B. Edible and Medicinal plants and C.Bush recipes(for cooking stews and such)
While this book is for novice to apprentice outdoorsmen it looks to be a promising and helpful read. For the $10 I paid for it on Amazon it is a nice addition to my library.
