I've never fucked with snaps directly to lures, they just seem to neuter the action of the lure in most cases and in clear water conditions seems like it might spook.
The only time I really use swivels or snaps is when I am surf fishing, where 99% of the time I am using a simple carolina rig. I'll tie up leaders to hooks and individually package them in sandwich ziplocks in a larger bag and label each leader with the length for easy swapping. These leaders look like hook>line>small swivel, which I then tie to a snap that is attached to my main line.
