So I’ve had one of picrel for a while and really don’t care for it. I have a tough time penetrating anything bigger than small kindling with it, even though it’s very sharp it’s just so short and light. Am I a pussy for struggling to process big stuff with this thing?
I’m in the south and have been to busy to get innawoods much over the last few years, so I don’t have to cut firewood that often anyway. I’m looking at spending more time out in cooler weather and would like a general purpose axe small enough to pack in easily (under 10mi) (lashed to my pack) but big and heavy enough for felling smaller trees and cutting logs for firewood.
I was thinking about the Greenland pattern Condor axe with a 19” handle that dave canterbury shills. I already carry a Mora that can do most or all of what I need for kindling. Any thoughts on that? I know there are much higher quality Swedish axes out there but I don’t have the experience to justify a nice expensive tool like that yet. Also looking for an off the shelf option vs hunting for a used axe to clean up.
