This is something a lot of /out/ists on this board just refuse to understand. Going on a lot of day hikes, nature walks, and campsite/glamping trips with your smartphone and Dyneema tarp doesn't turn you into an experienced outdoorsman. Nor will thru-hiking any of the famous trails do the trick, because they've already been blazed, forded, graded, and maintained for you and are peppered with pre-built shelters and the occasional town or village.
