this is a warmouth, caught it this morning. coloration is very similar to a rock bass on this one though. that's why it can be confusing. the colors of sunfish vary by what water they're in, temp, sex, ect. once you've caught a lot you can often tell what it is before it's even out of the water, because some sunfish species attack a certain way compared to others. warmouth tend to strike out of nowhere, you might see a completely different fish eyeing the lure, then the warmouth comes out of nowhere unexpected. funny enough, this is the first warmouth I've ever caught out of that pond, and I've fished it for over 20 years. it's crazy how many species of fish can be in a pond, each living in certain spots. there are at least 10 species in this pond that I've caught so far, I'm sure there are more somewhere I just haven't casted at the right time of the year.
