The water shoes aren't to keep your feet dry, it's like a wet suit for your feet. It keeps the water trapped around your feet so that they stay warmer. The water really isn't that cold though. Maybe like 60ish. If you are used to so so-cal ocean water then the narrows will feel nice to you.
